Survival

Yah!!! We made it through Opening Night! 114 children made it on and off stage and remembered what to do while they were there. We only had one vase break back stage, otherwise the set got where and when it was supposed to be. Only one break down of a 4 year old, mostly because she didn't get her way. Only one major costume problem, a little skunk who's tail as he said "exploded". I'm not really sure what happened to it. But we made it. I am always exhausted, but yet it takes me a while to slow down enough to sleep after a performance. Only three more nights to go, and we'll be done until next fall. Just enough time to pick out the plays for next year. Hairball - I didn't give up on you helping me with the set. Jason wanted to do it since it was his last play. So, if you're still game I'll take you up on it next semester. Thanks so much for volunteering to help.

I have 5 high school kids who have been helping with the play this time. They have done everything from helping to handle a little autistic boy we had, (he practiced with us, but once we added the lights and sound effects it was overload for his poor senses, se he had to quite) to putting on the make-up and moving the set. As well as reminding kids to be quiet, not to run, not to push, be quiet, don't touch peoples costumes, sing louder, and don't forget be quiet. They have been a lot of help. Two of them will be taking over Jason's job as my assistants for the plays next year. Which is definatly not a job for the weak of heart, but they are both up to it. I've been trying to think of a clever way to thank them all. They have helped with all of the plays this year. Last year I made shirts that said "I survived EAC Children's Theatre 2005". So, I'm trying to think of something, but haven't gotten any inspiration yet. So, if you have any wonderful ideas for me let me know. We have our Awards Night next week. So, of course I'm working last minute here, but that's me life sometimes.
