Month in a Blur

Wow, December is almost gone and it will soon be 2008. What a wonderful, challenging, exciting, blessed year it has been. So much has gone on this past month of course with Christmas and all. We had a wonderful Christmas. It was a little quiet without extended family, that is always different for me. But we had a good time with just our family. Santa was good to us and the kids were excited. Of course the hardest part of that with my kids is they don't appreciate things and don't take care of things (we're working on it, but that is something that takes years, and we haven't had years), so it is frustrating when you give them nice things and they don't take care of them. So, presents, though they are fun add some stress to our home. My funnest gift to give was coupons for one-on-one time with Mom or Dad. We had our annual Christmas program and all of my kids did their own thing. It was fun, and always brings back memories of growing up and all the fun and silly things we did for the programs we had. The missionaires joined us for Christmas dinner, and the topping of the day was a phone call from our missionary. It was so nice to talk to him, to hear how he is doing, and just to chat. Six months and he'll be home which seems so crazy. The time has gone fast.

A funny thing about Christmas - my little Min didn't sleep much on Christmas Eve. She was awake most of the night, which wasn't good since than I was awake most of the night. Before going to bed she had mentioned she was afraid of Santa, but then would say things like "I like Santa, he's nice". Well, when she was talking on the phone to her big brother we found out that the reason she was afraid of Santa was because she thought she was on the bad list and was going to get coal. We got a good laugh from that one.

Also in December - in fact the Friday before Christmas our little Jazz had surgery on her cleft lip. All went well, and she is recovering quickly. She has bumped it a few times and been in a lot of pain. She tends to be a little wild when she plays. Otherwise she hasn't had much pain, and nothing that needed anything more than Tylenol. She was very embarressed at first, especially when it was swollen. Our family had to sing a special number in church that Sunday and she didn't want to go up there because people would see her, but at the last minute she changed her mind and just stood behind the podium so no one would see her mouth. It is looking good now and will be all healed up soon.

My birthday was in December, the big 42 and somedays that seems so old. I had a wonderful day, though. My husband surprised me by taking the day off to spend with me. It was so fun.

Such was my month, along with concerts and programs, parties and my play performing. I love New Years, a chance to start again, to recommit myself to the things I need to be doing, and to plan all the fun things I would like to do in the new year. 2008 - here I come!!

Poor Jazz - I can totally emphathyze with her. This year is the 25th anniversary of my head on collision with a drunk driver and I kind of remember how bad my face looked but sometimes wish I had a photo to remind me. I know the first day I was going back to school after the spring break and I was afraid everyone would think I would look awful but because I wasn't sure if it would ever look much better, decided I have to go to school. First class I walked into, the instructor walked up to me and asked, "what happened". After I explained she commented, "i'm sure it will look much better after you get the stitches out" to which I replied, had them out last week. Oh well, life is good. Happy new year to you and your family.
