Sunday Dinner at the Whetten Nut-House
Sunday dinners at our house are not just Sunday Dinner, they are a large family gathering of a variety of people with a variety of dinner conversations, lots of noise, and family memories. On Sunday we pull the kitchen table out away from the wall, add another long fold up table and some folding chairs; and once in awhile an extra card table when we have more than the two long tables will hold. We put on the super long table cloth that my Mother-in-Law made, set up a wide assortment of glasses and dishes, and gather any number from our normal 9 family members to 20 people. How did this start you may ask? Well, I was trying to remember and I'm not exactly sure. At one time right after Jason left on his mission he had a friend that was going through a rough time, she was a college student away from home so we invited her to join us for Sunday dinners. We decided that my Mother-in-law needed to join us also. Well, since she was coming to dinner any college students that were living in her home were invited also. They were usually our neices anyway, and we enjoy having them here. When Jason returned from his mission more college kids came to dinner. As long as they could stand our noise and craziness they came back and became regulars. Soon a sister-in-law who is living in town and going to school started coming. It is always easy to add another table setting for anyone who shows up. Today we had an aunt and an uncle who stopped by to see our little one stay for dinner. The amazing thing about Sunday dinners is that in all the years of having Sunday dinners and never knowing exactly how many people would be here there is always enough food. It's almost like the story of the pot that never stopped filling, we just serve another person and we are fine. The other amazing thing is - even though it's work to make the meal and to clean it all up, I get filled up by serving the meal; our home is filled and I can't imagine Sunday without Sunday Dinner.
